Eleanor Health is Increasing Virtual Addiction Recovery Groups in Response to COVID19 and Social Distancing

For almost every type of addiction treatment and aftercare program, peer groups are an essential part of the overall recovery journey. Groups help to break down feelings of isolation and reduce the risk of relapse. By meeting together on a regular basis, groups act as a network of strength, support, and education that many members rely on as they navigate their recovery.

No matter if a person is new to the group or already an established member, the entire group benefits from offering each other assistance, compassion, and guidance as they rebuild their confidence and livelihood. In fact, many group members develop close-knit bonds and lifelong friendships, providing each other with a shoulder to cry on during tough times or a hand to high-five in encouragement.

However, as of March 2020, the COVID-19 virus (commonly known as Coronavirus) has disrupted how groups function, despite being a crucial pillar of stability for those in recovery. With the majority of the world practicing social distancing and avoiding physical contact, many people are concerned about what will happen to the groups they depend on.

Virtual Groups from Eleanor Health

To ensure members have consistent access to peer groups while maintaining their safety and health during COVID-19, Eleanor Health is now providing virtual groups for therapy, support, and education through our telehealth services. It is our goal to help you stay engaged in treatment and recovery, without being physically in the clinic.

What is the difference between an in-person group and a virtual group?

Both types function in the same way, except the virtual group is online, similar to a conference call. Your group leader will still moderate the discussion and you will still have an opportunity to share and learn from your fellow members. Even though you’re not in person, you can still feel a sense of community and work through your experiences and feelings, from the comfort and safety of your home or any location convenient to you.

How do I access a virtual group session?

By using your computer, phone, or any internet-capable device with a camera, you can access your group through our private and secure video conferencing system.

When will the in-person group meetings resume?

In-person groups will be on hold until further notice. We encourage you to engage with our virtual groups in the meantime. At this time, we are closely monitoring all updates from the local, state, and federal governments, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We will continue to communicate any changes to our schedule as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work to provide safe alternatives for our members and staff.

As always, our care for you isn’t confined to our physical locations–it reaches beyond the clinic walls to meet you wherever you are.
